Victopia Projects!

Victopia is a casual event. We bring our own things to work on. We share ideas and get inspired by the talented people who we meet.

I was truly blessed to get to meet this wonderful woman! For those of you who have not met Kristi or do not know who Kristi is, she is the owner of Hanna Stamps!! She is beautiful, talented and what I always look for in a friend .... she gets my sick and twisted sense of humor!!!!! We have a bit of a wind blown look happenin' here - As soon as we started getting all set to get our picture taken together it started raining. AND.. we are just so sweet we were melting!!! I cannot wait until we get together again!!

This picture shows all the girls who attended Victopia!! We managed to get our pictures done just before the rain set in! These girls are so creative and so much fun. It was good times all around.









I get quite a bit done usually when I go to Victopia. This time was pretty productive as well.!


I love making name frames. I made this one for a friend of mine who just got a new puppy, named Boris. The funky background paper is from the Pet Stack! I love all the papers in it!







This layout I am quite proud of! My son has this talent where when he is in the bathtub he holds his fingers a certain way and can blow big bubbles. I snapped these shots one night while he was in the tub! The letters are traced on Whisper White card stock using the Stampin' Up! chipboard letters. I then stamped the bubbles from the Domestic Goddess Hanna Stamp set. I then coloured all the bubbles with watercolour pencils and a blender pen. Then over top of a few bubbles I put some baubles (also known as Dew Drops). Then I used some chipboard to make the bubbles and used the Coluzzle to cut the circles. I like the way this one turned out.

I purchased this kit at the Scrappin Bug. Since Vicki is one of my special friends it was only fitting that I put a picture of her and I on this layout. The beautiful lane picture, Vicki took when we visited Winter Wheat last summer. If you ever have the chance to go there - it's near Sparta in Ontario - you should go. It's a very unique place.

I am also pleased with how this layout turned out. Jade (the one in the blue) and Alexis (the one in the pink) have been friends since Junior Kindergarten. Alexis moved to the other side of town, but they have kept in touch. They spend lots of time together. Vicki gave me these designer papers last year and I finally got around to using them! The colours go great with the girls shirts!



This is the layout I came up with for our challenge! Vicki told us to bring 3-5 black and white pictures with us to Victopia. She then gave us the card stock and the designer paper and we had an hour and a half to design a layout. We had to use a bit of each thing she gave us. These are my cats shortly after we brought them home.




This is the card I made for my dad for his birthday. He turns 61 on May 23rd. It's gonna be fun cause my sister Diana is going to be home for his birthday. The great plaid paper is another piece from my Pet Stack! I coloured Riley with the Copic markers. It was my first time using them - and I love them - I need more practice to get good like Vicki and Kristi - but I love love love these markers!!!





So, that's pretty much it, what I got done - besides laughing and shopping!!!

Victopia Adventures

This past weekend, I had the pleasure of going to Kingston to visit my best friend Vicki Garrett as she hosted Victopia! (what is Victopia you ask? It's a yearly event that Vicki holds for friends to get together and stamp, scrap, laugh, drink and eat!!!) My dear friend Kim came with me and we made a road trip out of our drive up.

We left in the morning on Thursday and decided to stop at scrapbook stores along the way.

Our first stop was the Scrapping Bug in Kitchener. The first picture is of the sign on the outside of the store and the second is the picture of "the Scrappin' Bug". A few purchases were made here!

Then we ventured on to Simply Scrappin' Inc in Cambridge. I'm glad I checked the web before we set out as they had recently moved their location to the Southworks Outlet Mall in Cambridge.

Some purchases were made at this store as well! The old warehouse gives this store lots of character!

By this time our tummies were rumbling so we stopped at Applebee's for lunch. It was my first time at Applebee's and I was very pleased. The food was great.

Once we had our tummies full we headed off for The Scrapbook Emporium in Oshawa.

This is a beautiful store.

It is very bright and it has a very large crop room that is all colour coordinated. Very very nice.

And yes, we made some purchases there as well!!!

Then we headed for Kingston.

We arrived at Vicki's at about 6:30 pm.

We were very excited to see her because I have not seen her since summer last year.

We chat and talk alot, but we have not been in each others company since summer.

Next up......the stuff I worked on!!!

I'm Too Sexy for this Blog!!

Patch, my male cat, cracks me up.
The way he sits on things and lounges around like he is the king of the castle!
So tonight we were eating supper and he was "lounging" looking like he owned the place, so we started singing "I'm too sexy for this cupboard" and then took his picture.
Yeah - we're crazy - but we love our kitties and they have such great personalities!

Just a short post for today - I'm working on a 3-D project from Jan Tink's blog which I will post when it is complete!!!

Happy Birthday Granny!!

My Granny turned 89 years old today!!
A few times in the past year we were not sure she would see this birthday, so we are very happy that she has. My Mom, my Aunt and Uncle and my two kids decided to take a picnic type lunch into the nursing home to help her celebrate. The nurses at the home knew we were coming, but it was a surprise to Granny. We sat out in the beautiful sun room and had some sandwiches and some birthday cake. We were all sitting around talking and catching up and then we were all surprised because Granny's two sisters, Mabel and Phydella, and her sister-in-law Pauline, and her niece Greta came for a visit!! So it was very nice to see them all and I was glad they all made it in to see her. And then after we left, we are to understand that her very good friend Anna came to see her as well. I'm sure she will sleep well tonight after all that visiting!!
She is very much looking forward to my sister coming home in May.....she is not the only one!
All in all it was a good day.

April Babies!

I've been on a little bit of a roll for the last couple of weeks. Many of my family members celebrate their birthdays in the month of April, so that gives me a huge reason to stamp lots of cards!






This was my first card using the Hanna on the motorcycle. It really is a very cute stamp set! I did some paper piecing on the motorcycle and used my exacto knife to cut out around the motorcycle and then I popped Hanna and her bike up from the page.






I am really liking the colour combination of Tempting Turquoise and Real Red and the white gel pen just adds a nice touch.

One of our challenges this week was to create a card using something old and something new - so basically something you have just bought and something you have had for quite some time.
I have had my glossy cardstock for ages and have not used it for a very long time. I have not used this stamp set yet, so I thought I would give it a try. I used the crayon resist technique to get the white berries and white edges on the flowers.

Happy Birthday Jade!!

Can you believe it??? My daughter is 14 today.

I'm not sure I'm prepared for the plunge into the teenage years. Yeah I know, she was technically a teenager last year, but she is in grade 8 and then we go to high school and then we go to college and then we get married - good lord I've already got myself to 80!!!

I whipped her up this Hanna card last night. It's hard to stamp for people when they are in the house with you!!!!

I like the way it turned out though! I picked up a glitter stack and this was one of the papers in the stack. Lots of glitter!!! I love paper piecing with the Hanna stamps - they are perfect for it.

Having Mom Over for Dinner

You don't even have to be a mother to enjoy this one
Brian invited his mother over for dinner. During the course of the meal, Brian's mother couldn't help but notice how beautiful Brian's roommate, Jennifer, was.
Brian's Mom had long been suspicious of a relationship between Brian and Jennifer, and this had only made her more curious.
Over the course of the evening, while watching the two interact, she started to wonder if there was more between Brian and Jennifer than met the eye. Reading his mom's thoughts, Brian volunteered, "I know what you must be thinking, but I assure you Jennifer and I are just roommates."
About a week later, Jennifer came to Brian saying, "Ever since your mother came to dinner, I've been unable to find the beautiful silver gravy ladle. You don't suppose she took it, do you?"
Brian said, "Well, I doubt it, but I'll send her an e-mail just to be sure. So he sat down and wrote: "Dear Mom: I'm not saying that you "did" take the gravy ladle from the house, I'm not saying that you "did not" take the gravy ladle. But the fact remains that one has been missing ever since you were here for dinner. Love, Brian"
Several days later, Brian received an email back from his mother that read: "Dear Son: I'm not saying that you "do" sleep with Jennifer, I'm not saying that you "do not" sleep with Jennifer. But the fact remains that if Jennifer is sleeping in her own bed, she would have found the gravy ladle by now.
Love, Mom"

A Day At The Races

This Saturday, we spent the morning at the Scout's Dragster Races. All the Scouts design their own car and then they race them. Each Scout got 3 time trials to determine their placement in the race. Then 2 cars at a time raced, with the winner moving on. The one picture shows the track the cars race on. One car is placed on each side of the track. The boys stand at the bottom of the track with a hand held depresser. They watch the lights at the top of the track and when the light turns green, they press their button to let their car go. They are only allowed 3 false starts. If they have more, their time does not count.

There were many different kinds of cars. I was impressed by the talent these young guys showed. There was one in the shape of a pencil, one was a "flower power" van, and one was even carved down to look like a skateboard with a fella standing on the top! The boys had a great time, and to be honest, so did Mom!!!!

Workin' for the weekend!

This weekend I decided to make a few of the cards that I saved into my favourites. I check all these awesome sites and samples and keep all these cards - I thought it was about time I made a few of them!!!

This card I tweaked from Andria Werner. It was a sample I saw a while back and wanted to make one! I love Real Red and Tempting Turquoise together! I think it's an awesome colour combo.

I tweaked this card as well. I do not have the name of the person who made the original that inspired this one, but thank you to whoever it was.

This card was inspired by a card made by Tracy Harp. I just recently got this set and love all the little bugs in it!

I'm actually quite pleased with this one. My challenge for this week was a colour challenge. We were to make a card using the colours Basic Grey, Black, Creamy Caramel and any red. I chose Real Red as my Red.

I used the metallic pencils to colour the stars and certain parts of the stamped image. The horse and rider are embossed in black.

My Babies!!

Well first off, my class went well last night. All the ladies that came loved the projects and I was happy to see them going outside the box and adding their own touch to the projects. That is one of the things I love about stamping and scrapbooking, everyone can do their own thing and there is no right and wrong! It is interesting to see how some people have to follow every instruction right down to the letter and others add a little of this, or turn that just so, or totally eliminate, or add a little something. I love to see what people come up with when given the same set of supplies.

Thanks to all those who have posted comments as well as to those who took the time to email me about my blog and about my projects. I appreciate that you have taken the time to have a look and have taken even more time to comment!!!! Many of you thought the little kitty on my scrapbook page sample was mine. Nope, she was a guest for a few days. So I thought today I would share a picture of my babies!!!

Here they are!!! The white one is named Patch and the gray one is named Shadow. They are brother and sister and are the best of friends. They sleep together and clean each other and I am glad that I got them together. They each have their own personalities and are a fun addition to our family!
