So if you have ever been to my house you have seen my craft room and the plethora of stuff I have. This includes mediums for colouring with. I have Copic markers, I have Zig markers, I have Derwent Inktense pencils, I have Prismacolour pencils, I have chalks, I have metallic pencil crayons, I have crayons and ink, ink, ink!
My BFF Vicki had mentioned a site where you can take online classes for teaching you how to colour. I can "colour", but I can't really "COLOUR"!!! I want to learn how to get the most out of the products I have. I know you can do so many different things with the Copic markers, but I have never taken the time to sit down and practice or to sit and watch an instructional video.
I decided why not now?
So I headed on over to www.kitandclowder.com and I signed up for the class of the month. They offer both a marker class and a pencil class. I decided to sign up for both, since I have both mediums.
This month's class is called Brighten Your Day and we will be learning colouring rain, water and reflections, fire and glowing effects, night scenes, fur, and backgrounds.
I got my images and I got my class booklet and I started reading! They also offer some free tutorials to get you started to learn how to blend Copic colours, how to work with skin and hair. I did some practice on them, but to be honest I just wanted to get started!!!
I printed my image off on Neenah paper. I want to get some Xpress It to try, as the teacher said it's her favourite, so I'd like to try it and see what I think. But for now the Neenah will have to do.
This is the MARKER class and I used Copic Markers to complete the image
We started with the easiest part which was colouring the ground.
We then moved on to colouring the hills behind the critters
Next up was the ground effects adding in some grass and flowers
From there we moved on to colouring the sky. It was a bit challenging as I didn't have exactly the same colours as the teacher, so I had to use what I had learned in the tutorials to get a substitute colour that would look okay.
We then started working on the fire. This was a challenge too
And when it was all said and done this is what it looks like. Fur is really hard. The teacher makes it look sooooo easy, but it's gonna take me a bunch of practice to get it right.
All in all I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out. Hard to believe it started looking like this on the paper!! (I can't show you the entire image for copy write reasons, but wanted to show you a snippet of what it looked like to begin with!)
If you have ever thought of taking a colouring class...I would highly recommend Kit and Clowder! Very easy learning and you learn at your own pace. It's not a "live" class, it's a video that Alyce has recorded and you can start, stop and rewind as many times as you like.
Chow for now,
Off to do more colouring!!!
